Whats the best thing to do when in Sweden? Wake up early, go to a "Bageri" and get incredible hot cocoa and éclairs, & enjoy them both while sitting on a dock watching the sun rise above the Baltic Sea. Things may start out a little cold and grey, but when the sun hits the tree's and the water at just the right angle...it will all be worth it. You will BREATHE warmth. :)
I thought I lost my ipod at the temple the day before... but did I? Nope, it was snuggled safely at the bottom of my money bag. A good thing too, because this red friend has become my closest companion...
While Janelle and I were watching the sun rise for Stockholm, she was telling me that she decided as much as she loves it there, she could never live there for then.."the houses will just be houses, and the cobble stone will just be cobble stone, and the food will just be expensive, and.. seeing a one legged pigeon wouldn't even be that exciting..." Like you, I thought that last bit was a little surprising too, till I looked over and saw our little one legged friend.. haha :)
Where is the best place to shop in Europe? H&M. Any knowledgeable girl could tell you that. But where are the best H&M's located? Old town Stockholm. and I’m sure only a few lucky girls could tell you that ;)
I wish the McDonalds’ back home were as fancy as they are here.. while waiting for our dearly beloved H&M's to open, Janelle and I warmed up inside mickey D's comfy little cafe, and they even had cool balloons to give away. America? We are missing out.
It was getting to be lunch time and so Janelle and I set out to find this "no name" cafe we had seen the other day. It promised to have the best Swedish meatballs with a side of Lingdon berries.. Sweden’s famous dish. Worth it? OH YES. I kid you not, you cannot find meatballs that good anywhere else in the world. And with the added berries and mashed potatoes with light gravy? It was a modern day miracle. SO GOOD! ;) The location added to the dish a little bit too. It was a quaint little place, and I found myself enjoying my dish in a window seat comforted by small pink and blue pillows. oh! and our cute waiter with brown curly hair DEFINITALLY made the whole experience THAT much better. ;)
There's nothing like a Ferry infested with clowns.. uh.. yes. I just said, "there's nothing like a ferry infested with clowns." I know, I wish I wouldn't have said it either. But alas, its true. the "Queen of the Baltics" apparently finds clowns to be her favourite piece of entertainment. Lets just say I spent most of my time snuggled warmly in the back of the piano bar. haha :)
My moms favourite candies are gummy bears! Well, if not her favourite, they are definitely up there.. so when i saw a box of Swedish gummy bears.. I just couldn't help myself :)
and of course, Sweden wouldn't be Sweden if you didn't try their green cake pastries they had ALL OVER! They tasted like a no-bake cookie with nuts and a tinge of bubble gum flavour for the topping? Trust me, it was good. :)
oh! and one more thing... Swedish pancakes are near impossible to find. But we discovered that even if you did find them, they wouldn't be worth the money since the best ones are made in the homes of the Sweeds.. so, my Turkish raised, Guam born, Norwegian based, head teacher is going to make us some 100% authentic Swedish pancakes TONIGHT! :) I'll let you know how they turned out.. though I am positive they won't be anything short of scrumptious! :)
..and they were just that. Scrumptious! :D
